The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely building a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
